How can I color my code on Stack Overflow when posting an answer? How should I format my code?

Closed questions cannot and should not be answered at all. They have to be reopened to get an answer, and they can only be reopened if the Question content itself is an appropriate question. Comments don't count. So edit the Question, and get it to a point where it should be opened, and then vote to reopen.
So, in summary: code snippets on Stack Overflow are protected by copyright unless they are so small that any two programmers would come up with substantially the same code.
The colors are designed to draw the user's attention to certain features of the site.
