GCP Artifact Registry public google-container images

Question

Since Google is pushing more on Artifact Registry and already announced that Container Registry is not actively developed anymore, is there a replacement for the public Google Container images, that are currently offered at https://console.cloud.google.com/gcr/images/google-containers/GLOBAL ?

This is the setup I'm using:

gcloud --project $PROJECT_ID \
artifacts repositories add-iam-policy-binding $REPOSITORY \
--location=$LOCATION --member=allUsers --role roles/artifactregistry.reader

In my specific case PROJECT_ID=ansybl, REPOSITORY=public and LOCATION=us. Images can later be downloaded without being authenticated, e.g.

docker pull us-docker.pkg.dev/ansybl/public/canto
