Cannot load driver class: org.h2.Driver

Question

I have a spring boot application being built with Gradle. This project has been sitting for a bit and I'm now resurrecting it and updating all of the versions and I've run into an issue when running my application from inside intelliJ.

I googled and found many stackoverflow entries for this particular error, but none seem to help. Here is my current application.yml.

spring:
  profiles: dev

  datasource:
      url: jdbc:h2:mem:test
      username: sa
      password: sa
      driverClassName: org.h2.Driver

And it appears to know that I am running my dev profile, because changes to this section are reflected in the next run.

I have the following line in my build.gradle

I have also tried this as:

Of interest is that IntelliJ is reporting an error in my application.yml on the driverClassName

When I click on this to get suggestions, it suggests `Add library 'Gradle: com.h2database:h2:1.4.200'. So intelliJ is finding my jar file and the class, but somehow it's not connecting it to my spring boot runtime.

Out of ideas of what to try next.

You have added the H2 dependency in test scope (testImplementation), which means it will only be available to tests, not to the normal application. If you want H2 to be available to your application and not just to your tests, add it to the normal scope (implementation).

As you're using IntelliJ, make sure you reimport/refresh the Gradle build (IntelliJ will show a hovering icon in the right upper corner to do this after you modified the file).
